Marian did well in creating “masks” for each character, and had to read more to uncover their secrets. I really liked the sassiness of the kids, and how some comments summed up the adult issues well. Liam was such an arrogant twat, and deserved a punch not a slap. However, I did find her quite a vulnerable character, someone who just wanted to be liked, and puts on a front for work and family. Whilst Jessie had a heart of gold, and only wanted best for all of the family, (by splashing the cash), I reckon I’d want to slap her if she was a relative of mine. It’s been a while since I finished it, but flew through it which is normally a good indicator that I enjoyed the book. I liked the different family events, from various perspectives, that led up to the main event, which we knew from the beginning, just unfolding the opening scene chapter by chapter. I chose Grown Ups as my book for March as needed something lighthearted after exam time, also didn’t want to send you all to the madhouse with something too intense.
